iPhone Duo screen protection: protecting both displays

Foldables need a different approach from conventional phones. The fold area in particular should only use protection designed for flexible displays.

Treat the outer and inner displays differently

The outer display is closer to a conventional phone screen. The flexible inner display places much greater demands on thickness, adhesive and bend radius.

  • Use products explicitly approved for iPhone Duo
  • Do not stiffen the fold area unnecessarily
  • Make sure case edges do not lift the protector
  • Follow the accessory maker's installation guidance

Glass or film?

Tempered glass may suit rigid outer surfaces. On a flexible inner display, specially designed film is typically the more appropriate construction.

Think about case compatibility too

A screen protector can fail if a case presses against its edges. Check the combined fit of the case, hinge protection and display film.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use normal tempered glass on the inner display?

Only protection explicitly designed for a flexible fold area should be used there. Conventional rigid glass is not appropriate for that surface.

Should I remove a factory-applied layer?

Only if Apple or official guidance explicitly says to do so. On foldables, a factory layer can be part of the display system.
